Visavis, Visavis 2 and Visavis Softback: refurbishment and new upholstery for your Vitra chairs
From 20 chairs, Vitra offers a comprehensive refurbishment service for Visavis, Visavis 2 and Visavis Softback, carried out at the Vitra factory. Once refurbished, the chairs come with a 2-year warranty.

Choose your preferred configuration from the visitor chair models below, regardless of your current chair type. On request, Visavis and Visavis 2 can be converted to Visavis Softback.

The process includes an inspection, disassembly, cleaning of the parts and new upholstery for seat and back (on request). The chair is then reassembled, giving it a fresh appearance and readying it for the years ahead.

  • New seat and backrest covers in free choice of material and color

  • Optional: Replacement of the plastic backrest with a padded backrest featuring V-Foam cushioning; free choice of upholstery material (basic version)

  • Cleaning and refurbishment of all parts

  • Replacement of all glides

  • After refurbishment, the chairs receive a 2-year warranty

Frequently asked questions about the refurbishment service

Which chairs can be refurbished?

The Refurbishment Service covers the Visavis, Visavis 2 and Visavis Softback models from model year 1996, which are fully refurbished at the Vitra factory.
What does the refurbishment include?
  • Inspection and subsequent disassembly of the chairs
  • The plastic and metal parts are cleaned
  • The seat and back covers are replaced with new ones. Colour and material of the covers can be freely chosen from the available fabrics. 
  • The glides are replaced.
  • Optionally, a different backrest type and a matching new cover can also be chosen.
  • The chair remains the customer’s property.
Is there a warranty on refurbished chairs?

Yes. After the Refurbishment Service, Visavis, Visavis 2 and Visavis Softback come with a 2-year warranty.
How long does the refurbishment take?

Refurbishment takes around four weeks. Vitra will arrange the exact pick-up date for your chairs with you individually so that you get your chairs back as quickly as possible.
Is there a minimum order quantity?

Yes, the minimum order quantity is 20 chairs.
What does refurbishing Visavis, Visavis 2 and Visavis Softback cost as part of the Refurbishment Service?

The price of the refurbishment in the Refurbishment Service depends on the configuration you choose. We are happy to provide you with an individual quote.
Can Visavis, Visavis 2 and Visavis Softback also be refurbished on site by Vitra Circle for Contract, without sending them to the factory?

No, refurbishment, reupholstering and assembly are only possible at the Vitra factory. This is because the entire process – disassembly, refurbishment, use of spare parts, assembly – can be carried out most efficiently and effectively at the Vitra factory. So that you do not have to send in your chairs yourself, we arrange with you on a case-by-case basis when our logistics specialist will collect your chairs from you.
Can I have a different backrest type fitted to my Visavis?

Yes. Converting from Visavis to Visavis 2 and vice versa is possible, as is converting from Visavis/Visavis 2 to Visavis Softback and vice versa.
Which upholstery materials and colours are available for the Refurbishment Service for Visavis, Visavis 2 and Visavis Softback?

For the Refurbishment Service, colour and material can be freely chosen
from the available fabrics.
