What do we purchase?

Two criteria should be met for a successful buy-back:

Relevant products

Vitra office furniture that is no longer in use but remains in demand. The pieces need not come from the current collection, but should meet the requirements of a modern working environment.

A minimum of 10 pieces

We regularly purchase mid-sized to large stocks – from as few as 10 pieces where logistics allow, up to several hundred or even thousands of items.

Frequently asked questions

Does Vitra buy back used office furniture?

Yes. Vitra regularly acquires medium to large sized quantities of pre-owned Vitra furniture from business clients and gives them a second life through Vitra Circle for Contract.

Which furniture qualifies for buy-back?

We look for Vitra office furniture that is no longer in use but remains popular, available in larger quantities and in as consistent a configuration as possible. Most frequently we purchase office chairs, chairs and conference tables – for example items from the following product families: ID Chair (e.g. ID Mesh, ID Soft, ID Soft L, ID Trim, ID Trim L, ID Air, ID Cloud), AC5, Eames Aluminium Group, Eames Soft Pad Group, Softshell Chair, Physix, Meda Pal, Allstar, Rookie, Eames Plastic Chairs, HAL, Tip Ton, Standard Chair, Eames Segmented Table, Eames Contract Table, Ad Usum, Ad Hoc, MedaMorph, Tyde, EM Table, Table S.A.M. We also purchase many other Vitra items.

Does Vitra also buy individual items or very small quantities?

No. The purchase of individual products or very small stocks (fewer than 10 items) is currently not feasible due to the comparatively high transaction and logistics costs.

What price can I expect for my used furniture?

Prices are based on residual value and depend on marketability, configuration, condition, quantity, and the type and location of storage. As a rule they are at least on a par with professional office-furniture recyclers, and in many cases above. They are not comparable to peer-to-peer platforms such as eBay, as purchasing into stock, reconditioning and warranty are taken into account.

How do I submit a buy-back request?

Via the contact form. Photos of the products as well as of the white manufacturing label (usually on the underside of seating and table furniture) are helpful. Vitra will get in touch shortly after receiving your request.

How is sustainable return transport ensured?

Vitra optimises transport routes and, wherever possible, takes back used furniture in the same transport process in which new furniture is delivered. This minimises the ecological footprint of the transport.
