Aluminium Chairs by Vitra – design icons in a second lifecycle

The Eames Aluminium Chair is one of the great furniture designs of the twentieth century. Charles and Ray Eames conceived and developed this chair in 1958 for the private residence of an art collector in Columbus, Indiana (USA). For its construction, the designer couple departed from the principle of the seat shell, instead stretching a panel of fabric or leather between two aluminium side members to create a taut but elastic seat. The chair adapts to the body of the sitter and is exceedingly comfortable, even without elaborate upholstery.

The Aluminium Group comprises various models that can be used at home, in the office or in public spaces: The Aluminium Chairs EA 105/107/108 are primarily suited to meeting areas. The models EA 117/119 are the task chairs in this large chair family.  Thanks to this variety of models, the different finishes in chrome-plated, polished or powder-coated aluminium, and the many fabric and leather colours, the perfect Aluminium Chair can be found for every environment.

At Vitra Circle for Contract, these icons are refurbished with the utmost care: the pre-owned chairs are fully disassembled, aluminium and chrome parts are polished, the upholstery is individually renewed according to your wishes, and at the Vitra factory the Aluminium Group Chairs are reassembled exactly as in the new production process. Fabrics, leathers and colours can be freely selected.
