Softshell Chair: refurbishment and new upholstery for your Vitra chairs
From 20 chairs, Vitra offers a comprehensive refurbishment service for Softshell Chairs, carried out at the Vitra factory. Once refurbished, the chairs come with a 2-year warranty.
The chairs are disassembled, aluminium and chrome parts are polished, and covers are replaced according to your individual preferences. Colours and materials can be freely selected from the available fabrics and leathers. After the refurbishment service, the chairs look as good as new.

Which chairs can be refurbished?
The Refurbishment Service covers the Softshell Chair product family (e.g. Softshell Chair with five-star base, Softshell Chair with four-leg base, Softshell Chair with four-star base), which can be refurbished at the Vitra factory.
What does the refurbishment include?
- Inspection and subsequent disassembly of the chairs
- The plastic and metal parts are cleaned
- The seat/back covers are replaced with new ones. Colour and material of the covers can be freely chosen from the available fabrics and leathers.
- The gas springs are tested and replaced with functioning ones if necessary
- Wear parts such as castors and glides are replaced and the lubricants renewed
- The chair remains the customer’s property
Is there a warranty on refurbished chairs?
Yes. After the Refurbishment Service, Softshell Chairs come with a 2-year warranty.
How long does the refurbishment take?
Refurbishment takes around four weeks. Vitra will arrange the exact pick-up date for your chairs with you individually so that you get your chairs back as quickly as possible.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
Yes, the minimum order quantity is 20 chairs.
What does refurbishing Softshell Chairs cost as part of the Refurbishment Service?
The price of the Refurbishment Service depends on the configuration you choose (fabric or leather, the condition of the mechanism and gas springs, and any conversion work). We are happy to provide you with an individual quote.
Can Softshell Chairs also be refurbished on site by Vitra Circle for Contract, without sending them to the factory?
No, refurbishment, reupholstering and assembly are only possible at the Vitra factory. This is because the entire process – disassembly, refurbishment, assembly with spare parts, special tools and measuring equipment – can be carried out most efficiently and effectively at the Vitra factory. So that you do not have to send in your chairs yourself, we arrange with you on a case-by-case basis when our logistics specialist will collect your chairs from you.
Can I have a Softshell Chair with a five-star base converted to a Softshell Chair with a four-leg base?
Yes. Converting from one specific Softshell Chair model to another is possible.
