The offer for refurbishment and new covers for your ID Cloud chairs
From 20 chairs, Vitra offers a comprehensive refurbishment service for your ID Chairs, carried out at the Vitra factory. Once refurbished, your chairs come with a 2-year warranty.
The process includes an inspection, disassembly, cleaning of the parts, new covers for seat and back, the fitting of functional gas lifts and castors and, where necessary, repair of the armrests and replacement of the armrest pads. Finally, the chair is reassembled.

Which chairs can be refurbished?
The Refurbishment Service is available for all ID Chairs (e.g. ID Soft, ID Soft L, ID Mesh, ID Trim, ID Trim L, ID Air). They are fully refurbished at the Vitra factory.
What does the refurbishment include?
- Inspection and subsequent disassembly of the chairs
- The plastic and metal parts are cleaned
- The seat and back covers are replaced with new ones. Colour and material of the covers can be freely chosen from the available fabrics and leathers.
- The gas springs are tested and replaced with functioning ones if necessary
- The mechanisms are tested and replaced if necessary (replacement with a Circle mechanism, repaired by the manufacturer)
- The armrests are repaired if needed and the arm pads are replaced.
- Wear parts such as castors and glides are replaced and the lubricants renewed
- Optionally, a different backrest type and a matching new cover can also be chosen.
- The chair remains the customer’s property
Is there a warranty on refurbished chairs?
Yes. After the Refurbishment Service, ID Chairs come with a 2-year warranty.
How long does the refurbishment take?
Refurbishment takes around four weeks. Vitra will arrange the exact pick-up date for your chairs with you individually so that you get your chairs back as quickly as possible.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
Yes, the minimum order quantity for the Refurbishment Service is 20 chairs.
How much CO₂ do I save compared with buying new?
The saving depends on the target configuration and is up to 65% CO₂ equivalents compared with buying new.
What does refurbishing an ID Chair cost as part of the Refurbishment Service?
The price of the ID Chair Refurbishment Service depends on the configuration you choose. We are happy to provide you with an individual quote.
Can ID Chairs also be refurbished on site by Vitra Circle for Contract, without sending them to the factory?
No, refurbishment, reupholstering and assembly are only possible at the Vitra factory. This is because the entire process – disassembly, refurbishment, assembly with spare parts, special tools and measuring equipment – can be carried out most efficiently and effectively at the Vitra factory.
What is the difference between refurbishment and repair?
By refurbishment we mean the comprehensive overhaul of ID Chairs at the Vitra factory. The chairs then come with a 2-year warranty. In a repair, the ID Chair is preferably repaired on site at your premises. Only the necessary parts are replaced. Vitra offers a 2-year warranty on the replaced parts.
Can I have the upholstery and backrest type changed (e.g. from ID Soft to ID Trim)?
Yes. Thanks to the modular design of the ID Chair family, converting from one specific ID Chair type to another is possible.
Which fabrics and colours are available for the ID Chair Refurbishment Service?
For the Refurbishment Service, colour and material can be freely chosen from the available fabrics and leather qualities.
